To help us learn about elections and voting, we held a Candy Bar Election in our classroom to see who would become the Candy Bar President. First, we held a primary election where we narrowed down our favorite candy bars in each of our candy bar parties: The Chocolate Party, The Fruity Party, and The Independent Party. Our election candidate became Reese's, Jolly Ranchers, and Bubblegum.
Then, we split into parties and began our campaigns. We created posters and speeches to promote our candidates. Then, we held a debate. Some students were able to present their speeches to the class and the other students were able to ask them questions. Some great questions during the debate were: "Why should we vote for ________?" "Why should we vote?" "What if we like chocolate, but we are allergic to peanut butter? Should we still vote for Reese's?" "Bubblegum gets stuck in my hair. Why should I vote for bubblegum?" Then, finally, on Election Day, we were able to vote for our favorite candy bar. Reese's is the Candy Bar President!
