We read a lot of books and learned so many interesting facts about spiders this week! We finished up our unit by doing a spider directed drawing!
I love taking pictures of my students working hard and learning new things! Here are some great pictures from October! :) One important reading skill we are working on this year is to be able to tell the main idea of a paragraph, story, or book and also give details that support the main idea. This week, we split into teams and created these Main Idea Pumpkins. There are main ideas on the pumpkins, and we had to figure out which of the leaves belonged to the main idea.
We are working on our reading stamina by taking time during the day to practice focusing on reading for as long as we can. Our goal is to reach 20 minutes of sustained reading time. Then we will get to party! We get to pick our books and where we want to sit to practice reading stamina. We pick some pretty peculiar places! We have been learning about important American Symbols and their significance to our country. We focused on the bald eagle, the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, Mount Rushmore, and the American Flag.
Here are some pictures of our class pet display. We had the most votes for a bearded dragon! Our next step was to write persuasive letters to Mr. Kell to convince him that we NEEDED a bearded dragon! Now we are anxiously awaiting our pet's arrival!
