As second graders, we should be able to focus on reading in the classroom independently for at least 20 minutes. It takes some time to build this stamina. So far, we have reached 14 minutes! Once we reach our goal, we will have a reading party in the classroom! Here are some pictures of us practicing reading. I let students choose where they want to read and provide reading buddy stuffed animals and pillows so we are comfortable and can stay focused.

This is one of the first math projects I did with the class. It was a great way for me to gauge what my students already knew about math while also getting to know them more. Also, they turned out pretty cute! Today we read the book The Jelly Donut Difference by Maria Dismondy and discussed ways we could show and share kindness to others. Then, we made this fun donut craft, ate donuts, and wrote about ways we could "sprinkle" kindness on others. Here are some great examples! I can't believe it is already time to start the 2017-2018 school year! I am very excited to start my second year here at Greenfield Elementary! I thought I would start out this year's blog posts by posting some pictures of my classroom. My theme this year is pineapples and flamingos. I am hoping to teach all of my students how to be like Pineapples. I want them to Stand Tall (Work Hard), Wear a Crown (Be Proud of Themselves), and Be Sweet on the Inside (Kind to Everyone). Looking forward to a great year! -Ms. Shaw |
